Full Crash Repair - Caterham 485

A customer visiting from Germany was touring in his rare Caterham 485 when he was unfortunately was involved in an accident during his stay in the UK.

The vehicle was recovered to our workshop due to significant chassis and suspension damage. Upon arrival, we carried out a full assessment of the vehicle, documented the damage with detailed photographs, prepared a comprehensive repair estimate, and submitted all relevant information to the insurance company for approval.

Our inspection determined that the vehicle required a complete new chassis, rear axle, and differential assembly.

Once authorisation was received, Conor, who previously built Caterham vehicles at the factory, carefully stripped the damaged vehicle and identified all components required for the rebuild. The replacement chassis was then prepared at the Caterham factory, where it was drilled, jigged, and painted before being shipped to our workshop.

Upon arrival of the new chassis, we began the meticulous process of rebuilding the vehicle. Once reassembled, a full geometry check and flat-floor setup were carried out to ensure the vehicle's handling and ride characteristics met Caterham's exacting standards, providing the customer with confidence for his journey back to Germany.

To complete the restoration, the vehicle underwent a machine polish, new decal stickers were fitted in-house, and the car was subjected to extensive road testing to verify that all systems were functioning correctly and that the vehicle performed exactly as intended.

The Caterham was then returned to the customer in excellent condition, ready for the drive home to Germany.
