Croft Circuit in Darlington played host to the second round of our Roadsport and 270R Championships whilst being joined for the first time this year by our CSCUK drivers for their first on track action of 2026. The weather once again played its part when bright sunshine on Saturday made way for cold, wet running on the Sunday meaning only the most adaptable of drivers were able to consistently challenge at the front throughout the weekend.
Richard Davies hit the ground running in qualifying with pole position despite having two lap times disallowed for exceeding track limits. Safe to say he was pushing hard. Kyle Townend was just as happy with P2 as he was with managing the whole session without stopping for a toilet break after his Friday night dinner disagreed with him somewhat… Mitchell Fasanya put on another strong showing to take third.
Race one was a close and exciting affair with Richard Davies refusing to give up his undefeated status. He fought hard with Mitchell Fasanya throughout in a battle also featuring Championship front runners Matt Fox and Kyle Townend. At the end Fasanya took second behind Davies with Matt Fox just over a second behind in third. Then came the rain… Our Roadsport Drivers were met with very slippery conditions, lap times around twenty seconds per lap down on Saturday’s race. Sadly, race two didn’t run for the full distance with a red flag stopping proceedings just over the 60% distance. It initially looked like Richard Davies would be beaten, but after a roll back of one lap due to the red flag stoppage he still came out on top! Kyle Townend took another great result in second and Mitchell Fasanya came home third after the roll back and a clerk’s decision demoted Steven Vischer from the podium.
Ollie White is proving himself the man to beat over one lap in the FanDrive 270R Championship taking his second pole position in as many rounds. The only 270R driver to break into the 1 minute 31’s. Never far from the front, Brian Thornton was second just under half a second ahead of a great qualifying effort from 270R Drivers Representative Craig Evans in third.
Brian added another victory to his tally in race one, charging to the front and holding off Ollie White to the flag. Luciano Caruso came through to third, making up three places on his starting position and pushing Ollie all the way to the line.
When the rain came for race two it was Cadwells rain master Paul Oggelsby who confidently drove to the front and took the win. He was kept honest for the duration by Aaron Oliver in second and Seb Tholet celebrated his dad Ryans birthday in style with third. Special mention to Scott Helme up 16 places to take 8th after a non-finish on Saturday.
It remained wet for race three and Paul Oggelsby was untroubled at the front managing a comfortable gap behind with a mature drive to take the win. Behind him Luciano Caruso fought through to second and then pulled clear for his second podium of the weekend. Seb Tholet looks to be having his coming-of-age season with yet another podium in difficult conditions. Always popular with fans and other drivers alike.
After missing out on the Championship last year to Matt Armstrong, Harry Senior looks fired up for 2026. He took pole position just ahead of the returning Champion Armstrong. 2025’s 310R Champion Taylor O’ Flannagan has stepped up to CSCUK as he attempts to take a clean sweep of all Caterham Championships. He was third showing how quickly he is adapting to a new car with sequential gearbox and slick tyres. Within the AM category Chris Fraser was fastest and an impressive 5th overall ahead of last years AM Champion Justin Armstrong two tenths back and 6th overall.
Senior and Armstrong picked up their 2025 battle where they left it in race one fighting clear of the field with Harry coming out on top. Justin Armstrong took a very impressive third overall and first in AM behind them with fellow AM Chris Fraser looking very fast this year in fourth overall. They both battled their way past experienced Pro-Am competitors Taylor O’ Flanagan, Charlie Lower and Steve Nuttall.
In the rain affected race two, Harry Senior was in a class of his own. He took a dominant win of over 17 seconds at the line setting the fastest lap of the race on his penultimate tour. Matt Armstrong was best of the rest in second holding off a closing Taylor O’ Flanagan. In AM Chris Fraser took the win and forth overall ahead of good drives from Tom Eden and Craig Storey.
After looking unbeatable in race two Harry Senior faded to third in the final race of the day. Matt Armstrong bested him for the first time this year in second whilst Taylor O’ Flanagan took his first CSCUK win on just his third attempt and at the very first race meeting of the season! Chris Fraser once again took the AM win ahead of battling Pro-Am drivers Nuttall, Lower, Heaton, Darling and Highton. After judicials were complete, Darren McCormack took second in AM with his first podium of 2026 and Craig Storey came home third.
Its early days, but the main Championship protagonists are starting to establish themselves in all classes. Let’s see who can carry that form over to our away round at Spa-Francorchamps where the slip streaming battles promise to be intense.
