On Saturday the 6th of April both groups of the Caterham Academy embarked on their first event, the Curborough Sprint! The paddock started to fill up when the gates opened at 6:30AM we were lucky with the weather, it had rained overnight but by 8AM the track had dried. After the driver briefing all the drivers were taken on a track walk and guided through the track layout and what should be thought about when tackling the Sprint. It is more technical than it looks!
9AM arrived and the first call to assembly were made, the drivers started lining up for their first practice runs. Each driver got two practice runs which took us up to lunch time where everyone could gather their thoughts and prepare for their timed runs in the afternoon. Each driver got 3 runs in the afternoon with some impressive times put in and importantly everyone was having a fantastic time.
The atmosphere in the paddock was lively and everyone was helping and cheering each other on. It was competitive but friendly at the same time. The final runs were done around 4:30PM and we had the top three from each group. Bob Laishley CEO of Caterham Cars presented the drivers with their trophies and champagne. The next round is at Croft on the 18th of May. Stay tuned for more updates!
