HWM is a well-established, family-owned, prestige sports car dealership in Walton-on-Thames, Surrey and West London. Immensely proud of its own history as a manufacturer of sports and Grand Prix cars in the 40s and 50s, HWM is delighted with its new association with Alfa Romeo, a stellar contemporary in a classic era of motor racing.
Having competed together on the race track in Grand Prix and in iconic events such as the Mille Miglia, HWM is thrilled to be representing Alfa Romeo in modern times.
Hersham and Walton Motors, as it was first known, was founded in 1948 by two daring and stylish racing drivers, George Abecassis and John Heath. The company immediately made its mark as a racing car manufacturer and built the Alta-engined sports car, known as the HW Alta, followed by a second car, an open-wheeler which could be raced either as a sports car or a single-seater.
In 1950, Heath came up with the idea of a travelling team that could earn its keep from a busy programme of races on the Continent and three HWMs took part in an incredible twenty international events in twenty-seven weeks, across Italy, France, Belgium and Germany.
Abecassis and Heath were joined by a team of drivers including the twenty-year-old Stirling Moss. Moss was sensational. He finished third at Reims behind Ascari's Ferrari and Simon's Gordini and came third in the F1 race at Bari behind the 159 Alfas of Fangio and Farina, an Italian motor racing legend.
HWM honours its racing history and the daring gentlemen who made its name but is also very much a contemporary sports car dealer.
We want to bring the best in sporting motoring to the current generation of enthusiasts and our new association with Alfa Romeo emphatically seals this ambition.
